Review: Mockingjay

*WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS!!! *
by Suzanne Collins

Description:

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans -- except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay -- no matter what the personal cost.

My Thoughts:

This book was awesome; it kept me at the edge of my seat. I loved the writing style of this book because Suzanne does an amazing job when she finishes a chapter. She always ends every chapter with a twist in the story or a cliffhanger. That last statement at the end of each chapter makes you feel the need to turn the page!

(Ok here is where the spoilers begin!)

Mockingjay was such an emotional rollercoaster. There were moments that I was hopping out of my chair so excited, and then there were the moments were I was so depressed for these characters. The biggest shock to me (ok there were two) was when Peeta was about to kill Katniss. I was out of my chair yelling at him! Another moment that really shocked me was when Prim died. I almost cried (well not really) but I really stared at the page and reread that part. It was such a sad moment and I kept expecting her to come back at any moment. I think the best moment of the entire book was the ending! I knew that she would end up with Peeta!!!! (*giggle*). I loved the Epilogue! This book could not have ended in a better way! Yay for true love!!!

This book is packed with tons of action. At times I will admit that I wished the action would end and that more romance would take its place. Gale was in the book too much. During most of the first third of the book, when Peeta had not been rescued, Gale was there with Katniss and I didn’t like that. I was afraid she was going to fall for him (yeah I know that wouldn’t happen, but still Gale isn’t a bad guy).

There are a lot of new additions to characters in this book. I would recommend that you if you haven’t looked over Catching Fire before reading Mockingjay you should. I had forgotten who was who and what they had done. I really liked how each character is so unique and plays their part in the story. I still hold the idea that Katniss is my favorite female character ever . She is just a really cool character that is so independent and strong.

I really did like this book, but after reading the whole series, I am going to say that the Hunger Games was my favorite out of all of them. I just loved that book!

Rating: 5/5

So what did you think of Mockingjay!?

Review- Thirst No. 1

Thirst No. 1 by Christopher Pike
624 pages

Description:
As to blood --
ah, blood, the whole subject fascinates me. I do like that as well, warm and dripping, when I am thirsty. And I am often thirsty....

Alisa has been in control of her urges for the five thousand years she has been a vampire. She feeds but does not kill, and she lives her life on the fringe to maintain her secret. But when her creator returns to hunt her, she must break her own rules in order to survive.

Her quest leads her to Ray. He is the only person who can help her; he also has every reason to fear her. Alisa must get closer to him to ensure her immortality. But as she begins to fall in love with Ray, suddenly there is more at stake than her own life....

My Thoughts:

There are three different sections in the book, and I really liked that they were all sort of connected to each other. The time gap between the sections was very reasonable and I can see why the author did that.

This book is much more than a book about vampires, there is a lot of action and it can get a little gruesome.

This book was written in a way that is very easy to read. This is a very fast pace book, but it is easy to understand. I really enjoyed reading about the past life of the main character.

I really did like the main character Sita. She is a very old and strong vampire. She has been roaming the Earth for centuries, but she still values what is important to her and what she believes in. Sita isn’t a maiden in distress who is just sitting around waiting for some hero to rescue her. She is probably stronger than anyone who could try to save her. She can be a destruction machine, but she is also capable of loving deeply. Her emotions and actions were things that I could understand. I really loved how powerful she was!

Something I didn’t particularly like about her was that she was a very bold person, but I learned to accept it because I can see why she has become that way after so many years of existing. I wasn’t too fond of Ray either. The male characters in this book seemed a little unrealistic to me. They all fell for Sita too soon and took her in too quickly.

Also, I didn’t like that once you started to like a character, they would be gone before you really got to know them.

When fifteen-year-old Krystal Bentley moves to Lincoln, Connecticut, her mom's hometown, she assumes her biggest drama will be adjusting to the burbs after living in New York City.

He's cute, funny, a good listener—and everything she'd ever want—except that he was killed nearly a year ago. Krystal's ghost-whispering talents soon lead other "freaks" to her door—Sasha, a rich girl who can literally disappear, and Jake, who moves objects with his mind. All three share a distinctive birthmark in the shape of an M and, fittingly, call themselves the Mystyx. They set out to learn what really happened to Ricky, only to realize that they aren't the only ones with mysterious powers. Waiting on Wednesday was started by Jill over at Breaking The Spine. It's a feature for bloggers to swoon over upcoming releases they can't wait to get their hands on.

CRESCENDO

Synopsis:
Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy, Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The further Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim bloodline has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?

My thoughts:
I really enjoyed reading Hush, Hush. I also love the cover of these books! I mean wow they are awesome!! The plot for Hush, Hush was very good so I'm thinking this book will be very good too! I am REALLY excited to read this book!! :)

Review- Stargazer

Stargazer by Claudia Gray

Reading level: Young Adult

Hardcover: 336 pages

The vampire in me was closer to the surface . . .

Bianca, born to two vampires, has always been told her destiny is to become one. But she has fallen in love with Lucas, a vampire hunter who infiltrated Evernight Academy, the exclusive vampire boarding school she attends. Bianca will do anything to be with Lucas, even if it means lying to the powerful vampires of Evernight.

Her deceit leads her to dig deep into the mysteries of the school, and Bianca discovers that even those she trusts the most have their own dark secrets. When a ghostly force begins attacking Evernight—and targeting Bianca—she learns a shocking truth about her past that will forever change her future.

My Thoughts:
This book was pretty good. I will say that I liked Evernight (the first book in the series) more. I was not expecting for a book about vampires to have ghosts. I don't think the problem didn't evolved more in this book like it should have. I still like the characters but am now torn between Lucas and Balthazar!! Over all it was a good story and I would recommend it :)
